Boys2Men Planning Committee
Leadership Builds Community!

Dear Boys2Men Members and Friends:

Welcome to our website and a new day of intervention to positively affect the lives of our young, black males. Their future lies at the end of their arms, however we influence their path and direction. My name is Jermyn Shannon-EL, and I am honored to serve as the Co-Chair of the Boys2Men Conference in 2008. I have been involved with mentorship since my early years in college and have both personally and professionally benefited first hand from mentor programs and services. For this reason, I am excited and proud to invite you, your family, your company, office or agency, social or civic organization to join Boys2Men as we fulfill our mission to promote youth violence intervention, non-traditional mentorship and cultural understanding to enhance mentor and community relationships.

To accomplish our mission, Boys2Men acts as a catalyst for individuals, corporations, and community, non-profit, government and educational organizations by providing training, networking, educational activities, and promoting advocasy across disciplines.

We want to partner with you and your organization to share unity and build community through multiple, volunteer avenues. Our board members and staff are individually and collectively ready to build alliances with and provide services to our members and friends in local, state, national, and global communities alike. So let us know what your particular needs are via direct mail, phone, e-mail, or through upcoming "Rights of Passage Blog", COMING SOON!

More importantly, however, we want to hear your ideas, share your insights and learn about your perspectives. Please attend our upcoming volunteer committee meetings and community forums. We encourage you to send teams of co-workers and family members to our topical workshops and seminars. Make it a point to participate in the many special training and awareness sessions led by national experts in the field of health and nutrition, african-centered psychology and education. And get involved in our exciting new initiatives, which include our new direction to provide Boys2Men services locally, and eventually nationally.

A positive first step in making a commitment to promoting youth intervention is to volunteer with Boys2Men. If you are a current volunteer, consider sponsoring another person or recruiting a corporation to assist with funding Or, you may wish to self-sponsor a particular event we have planned. If you are not a current participant, you may join either as an individual or by encouraging your employer to join as a lifetime donor. Either way, you make the difference.

Meanwhile, spend some time browsing our website. In it you will find all you need to know about Boys2Men - our mission and goals; our partners and sponsors; our Board and events, and volunteer opportunities. Bookmark our site. Send it to friends and colleagues. And finally, visit the site often for constant updates.

You can also visit Black Mentor Initiative - www.blackmentorinitiative.org,
which is designed as an online resource center for young professionals and youth interested in entrepreneurship and knowing more about global issues and information. Check out that site as well when you have the chance.

I look forward to seeing you at the Boys2Men Conference. Thank you for investingin our Future.

Sincerely,

Jermyn Shannon-EL, 2008
